Head Coach Lee BARETTE
Coach Barette is a native of Cambridge, Ontario where he played both minor and high school football. This is his 2nd year leading the u17 entry from east Ontario. In university, coach Barette played receiver where he enjoyed a great career playing alongside quarterback Larry Jusdanis. Upon completion of his playing career he entered the coaching fraternity where he coached at his Alma Mater, Acadia University, for 5 years, four as the Offensive Coordinator. The Acadia offence was known as a high powered offence that included such great players as Blaine Scatcherd (Ottawa, ON), Trevor Martin, and Aubrey Cummings (former Ottawa Renegade). Coach Barette also guest coached with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats for three seasons and also was the offensive coordinator with the Ottawa Gee Gees during the 2002 season. Many minor programs, summer camps, and coaching clinics dot Coach Barettes resume. In 2005, coach Barette was voted to the Acadia University all-decade team for the 1990’s as an inside receiver. He currently resides in Ottawa where he runs a very successful financial planning practice.
Offensive Coordinator / Quarterbacks Chris COULSON
Coach Coulson is a native of Thomasburg, Ontario. He graduated from the University of Acadia in 1998. He was a captain and an offensive tackle for the Axemen; he played with a much respected football class, great players such as quarterbacks: Blaine Scatcherd, Larry Jusdanis, Trevor Martin, receiver Aubrey Cummings and defensive end Josh Thomas. Coach Coulson coaches many football camps and All-Star games within the Ottawa region. He is currently coaching the University Ottawa Gee Gee’s offensive line and sharing the offensive coordinating duties for the last 5 years. This is his second year leading the u17 Offense. Coach Coulson is a high school teacher whom resides in Ottawa with his wife Christine, and very recently, his newborn son, Ryan Patrick.
Special Teams Coordinator / Defensive Line Coach Pat TRACEY
Coach Tracy comes from Stirling, Ontario. He is a graduate of the University of Guelph, year 1986. He received a degree in the Arts field and also has a degree in Business Management from Ontario Agriculture College. His playing days were done at Guelph where he was recognized as a solid defensive back in the secondary. Coach Tracy set various records while playing at UG, some include: most games played in a career with (51) and longest fumble recovery in a season (61 yards). Guelph was recognized as the ‘Team of the Decade’ in the 80’s after winning the Vanier Cup in 1984. Coach Tracy was also effective on the special teams where he was the team’s leading punt returner. He was named ‘Most Improved Player’ in 1982 and served as a team captain in 1986 where he won the ‘Varsity Athletic Honour Award’. Later he rejoined the Guelph football program as a coach for 11 years. Some other coaching accomplishments of Coach Tracy are: Special Teams Coordinator with Hamilton Tiger Cats (CFL) in 1998, guest coach for the Hamilton Tiger Cats in 2000 and 2001, coached the East/West Bowl the last 3 years. Today, Coach Tracy is currently coaching at Queens University as Defensive Coordinator and defensive backs coach. Coach Tracey was recently the Special Teams Coordinator for the Team Canada u19 global championship team. This is his 2nd year with team east Ontario. He resides in Kingston with wife Denise and daughters Devon and Darby.
Defensive Coordinator / Linebacker Coach Chris WHITE
Graduating from the University of Guelph in 1999, Chris was recognized as one of the top linebackers for the Gryphon’s, in 1996, they won the Yates Cup. Chris was a team captain for the Gryphon’s and finished his time with a solid career at UG. After graduating, he head coached for Regiopolis-Notre Dame in Kingston, where his team won the KASSA Championship in 2004. Chris is currently residing in his hometown of Kingston, coaching linebackers for Queens University. This is his second year with the u17 east Ontario squad. He resides in Kingston with his wife Kerry and their children Mitchell and Christopher.
Defensive Backs Ryan BECHMANIS
Coach Bechmanis graduated from Queen’s University in 2006 after a five year playing career with the Golden Gaels. After his final season with the Golden Gaels, Ryan received the Most Dedicated Player award, which was voted on by his teammates. After graduating, Ryan traveled to Europe to be a player-coach for the Esbjerg Hurricanes of the Danish National League. Ryan coached for 2 years with Coach White at Regiopolis-Notre Dame, including the season when they won the championship, and helped out with the defense and special teams. He also coached the wide receivers, defensive backs and special teams for the Limestone Grenadiers of the OVFL in the summer of 2005. Ryan is currently enrolled in the Sport Business Management Graduate Certificate program at Algonquin College in Ottawa.
Receiver Coach Steve McLAUGHLIN
Coach McLaughlin has an outstanding five year career at Acadia University. After being named All-conference wide receiver 3 times, he was with no question one of the great players to come out of AU. Coach McLaughlin was recently recognized as a part of Acadia Universities’ ‘Team of the Decade’ in the 90’s as a wide receiver. Throughout that time, Steve played with some great players, some include, Jerome Pathon (NFL – Atlanta Falcons) and Bruce Beaton (CFL – Edmonton Eskimos). Steve resides in of Kanata with wife Kelly.
Running Back Coach Sean HALL
Coach Hall has been with the University of Ottawa Gee Gees since 2001. A former Gee Gee All-Canadian Free Safety, he was the leader of the tough early 90s Ottawa Defenses. Sean has coached at Minor and Junior Levels before joining the Gee Gees Staff. He also coordinated the defense in 2003 and 2004. With his extra time, Sean helps out with some football schools and camps. This is his 2nd year with the u17 east squad. Sean is a resident of Stittsville.
Offensive Line Greg WOODBECK
Coach Woodbeck is from Stirling, ON. After spending his high school football career at Centennial Secondary in Belleville, Coach Woodbeck moved on to play Center at Acadia University for 5 years. He was fortunate enough to play on two AUS championship teams in 1995 and 1998. He played with current U17 Coaches Barette and Coulson. Coach Woodbeck was a Guest Coach with the 2006 Eastern Ontario U17 team and for 2007 will be joining the staff. In the past he has had many coaching roles with both the Minor and High School levels in the Bay of Quinte area. Coach Woodbeck is self-employed, operating a third generation Auto Recycling facility in Stirling, Ontario; where he lives with wife Angela.
